If you have seen the latest episode of BBC Two Hospital series then you would have seen some of our fab staff doing an amazing job. Here we introduce our three consultant general paediatricians who starred in the episode.
Tolu Awogbemi is is originally from Nigeria but now a proud Mancunian. She has worked in the NHS for over 15 years and been a consultant at Alder Hey since 2016.

At work, this passion is expressed in her role as the lead of the mentoring scheme for trainees. She is also the clinical governance lead in the general paediatrics department and a member of other committees within Alder Hey whose focus is quality improvement. She is enthusiastic about medical education and works with both the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health and the General Medical Council to support processes that ensure that junior doctors working in the UK are fully qualified and competent to deliver the best care to NHS patients.
About working at Alder Hey, Tolu says:
Kết quả xổ số MB“What I love most about my job is the opportunity to put a smile on the faces of children and their parents and carers. It doesn’t matter if it’s been a brief or long admission episode, the phrase “we would like to discharge you home today” is always met with real expression of joy on the part of patients & their parents/carers and this gives me a deep sense of fulfilment.”
Rachel Tan is originally from Malaysia but came to the UK with a scholarship and graduated in the top 5% from the University of Liverpool in 2008.
She started working as a consultant paediatrician in 2019 but spent 10 years rotating through many different paediatrics department in Merseyside, spending majority of her time in Alder Hey, which is, in her words; ‘my favourite hospital’.
She has a special interest in cardiology and is in the Paediatrician with Expertise in Cardiology Special Interest Group.
Kết quả xổ số MB“I have always love working in Alder Hey since I was a trainee – it’s ethos of always striving its best to serve the patients is the reason why I want to be part of this hospital. Everyone here works so hard as a team and go out of their way to make Alder Hey a really special place for the patients.
“I have learnt so much from everyone in this hospital and I always feel so privileged being able to work in this state of the art building, with some of the best clinicians in the UK. I am passionate about providing every patient with a positive patient journey and working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team. Alder Hey has a lot of complex patients and it always amazes me how the family handle day to day difficulties with love and courage and how they looked at the positive side of everything, taking small wins every day. I love seeing the smiles of all my patients when they recover from their illnesses – nothing beats that feeling!”
Clare Halfhide is a consultant general paediatrician at Alder Hey.
Kết quả xổ số MBClare graduated from St Andrew’s in Manchester and started working at Alder Hey in 2005. She became a consultant in 2011 and specialises in paediatric respiratory medicine, sleep and long term ventilations and has a special interest in looking after children with complex needs.
Clare is part of the cystic fibrosis network and is a post graduate tutor.
